Save the wonderland
Save the Wonderland, help the beetle and his friends
This is about preserving our Wonderland.
The Wonderland is a slightly larger workshop, which we have been clearing out for almost 4 years.
Every box we opened while decluttering contained at least one item that made us wonder what it was for. Whether it’s a first-generation mobile phone with a huge antenna, a construction site warning light, or a cheesy Bergdoktor novel. This is how Wonderland got its name.
Many people left their old household effects there when they moved and never picked them up again. Tons of junk have already flown out during clean-up, the disposal of which is a costly affair. The flood of unusable things is slowly diminishing and we get a structure in the actually planned use of the building: a workshop in which cars or bicycles can be assembled and repaired.
For 3 years we have been working on Matilda, a 1967 VW Beetle 1300. Corona and the associated forced break from working life gave us a lot of free time that could be used to try our hand at working ;). It turned out that Anton enjoys repairing and restoring old cars and it became a project close to his heart.
At that time we were able to purchase a Beetle frame at a very reasonable price. The result is a complete reconstruction of the Beetle. For 3 years now we have been collecting the necessary parts for the rest of the reconstruction.
Gradually, more people joined and now we are 4 people who meet more or less regularly in the evenings and enjoy screwing together.
Now there is unfortunately a major weak point, the roof is now leaking. After 70 years and a lot of frost and countless rays of sunshine, the asbestos roof panels, which were considered good at the time, have become porous. A refurbishment alone would consume €30,000 in material costs. In addition, there would be the disposal of the asbestos sheets, which would again cost huge sums of money. That’s why we’re temporarily patching up the worst of it with AXOL, a liquid plastic that is especially suitable for asbestos removal and is therefore unfortunately not exactly cheap. We have already spent €800 in material costs. After we were able to renovate a quarter of the roof with it, it can now be estimated that we will need at least 2400 € again. With this we could ensure complete coverage of the asbestos and thus ensure the health of everyone here on the farm.
Roof is being renovated on the Wonderland
Of course, I will keep all donors up to date on what’s new from Wonderland, which finds are still finding their way out of oblivion and there will also be some screwdriver material on display. ?
