“I would describe Anton as a former globetrotter and today’s all-rounder. In his former life he was a programmer, today he is – as most of you probably know him – a hairdresser for dreadlocks here on the dread farm.
What makes him special and for what I am infinitely grateful: He does not let himself be discouraged. He gets up every morning full of vigor and thirst for action, just to repair the door “briefly” before his actual work, make the roof winterproof or to forge and implement plans for a self-sufficient, environmentally friendly irrigation system. You can find him outside on every free day in summer, in winter he works in and around the house. He is simply an absolute go-getter who has a huge heart for his family, friends and each of our projects – if I sometimes lose courage and calm, he just keeps going and works from construction site to construction site. His tireless thirst for action and thirst for knowledge does not allow us to stand still, but brings us a little further every day. I’ve never met anyone more suited to being an environmentally conscious farmer. 🙂
We met for the first time at Marienplatz in Stuttgart. Back then, almost 10 years ago, he made my dreadlocks for me. Although there was an attraction between us from the beginning, it took us years to find each other. Sometimes Anton was in a relationship, sometimes I. In addition, in the meantime he was always on the road as a tour guide in different countries and so year after year passed…
Until one day, like many others before him, he decided to move into our shared flat in the courtyard. But there was one thing that made him different from all the other roommates: he stayed. And that’s how we became what we are today: a couple who, after work, cooks together in the evening, sits by the fire to make plans, which projects are pending for the coming day and how we can master them together.
Who is this Therese?
Author: Anton
Anyone who knows Therese also knows one of her more distinctive characteristics: she has an open ear for everyone. She can empathize with any imaginable situation and thus shows tolerance to everyone, no matter how incomprehensible a point of view may be. She spreads her extremely great need for harmony and justice on the farm every day. Every living being is allowed to be as it is. Every animal has its place here and has a right to life. So it often happens that I just like to watch them…:
How she accidentally takes an ant indoors on the lettuce leaf, only to then carry it back to the same spot from which it was carried away in the garden. How the well-being of the animals is so close to her that she has to shed tears. How she spends hours at the pond trying to save every drowning insect.
I don’t know anyone who has such an honest love for animals and who cares as much about animal welfare as Therese. One day when she again spent forever rescuing animals from the pond, although we had other plans, I said: “You can’t always be there and save everyone anyway, so what difference does it make?”, to which she replied :” For this one creature it makes a difference!” And she’s right…
I learn from her every day and am incredibly grateful for that. Although she sometimes sees from the outset that my sometimes euphoric plan could fail, she lets me try it and supports me. When I think back how little I knew about country life when I moved to the farm and how much I’ve been able to learn so far – even if there’s still a lot of room for improvement. I look forward to all the days to come! Because here every day is a day to get your hands dirty and in the evening to have learned something from it.
I’m just thankful for this love, it’s the greatest I’ve ever experienced in my life.
Res, I love you with all my heart! Please never let yourself be encouraged, we can do it!
